Tomorrow (Tuesday Nov 10) the City of Calgary is hosting an information session at the ARC.

Should skateboard or sports ramps (bicycle, in-line skates, roller skates, etc.) be allowed on residential properties? Currently, sports ramps are allowed in parks and on residential property with an approved development permit.

Fire Prevention Week Selfie Contest! Ever wondered what you and your smoke alarm look like together? Got a little one at home that would love to be a firefighter for Halloween? Enter the Calgary Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Week Smoke Alarm Selfie Contest and find out how fire-safe your home is, practice your two ways out with a crew from the Calgary Fire Department and receive a CFD swag bag.

How to enter:
Send us a photo of you and your working smoke alarm, either as a comment on our Facebook event, and you will be entered in a draw to win a visit from the Calgary Fire Department. The draw will take place on October 1, 2015, and the winner will be announced on our Facebook event on October 2, 2015 to confirm a date a time for your prize-winning visit! Cops, Apples & Garage Sales!

Sat Aug. 8 – Emergency Services Appreciation Day

Next Saturday August 8 will be Emergency Services Appreciation Day & BBQ generously hosted by Co-op Calgary! This will be your opportunity to meet Police Officers, Fire Fighters & Paramedics. Say thanks to these first responders who put others safety ahead of their own! This is another volunteer-driven event by the Acadia Community Association held at the ARC!

The Acadia CA is organizing a Parade of Garage Sales in Acadia. On Saturday Aug 15 you can visit the ARC to pick up a map of all the participating neighbours, or find it online. Grand Opening of the ARC renovated curling rink

The Acadia Community Association officially opened its newly renovated curling rink at the Acadia Recreation Complex on Saturday, October 18 with a celebration.
We were honored to have Hon. Jonathan Denis MLA, Calgary – Acadia, Christina Steed, Jonathan’s Assistant, Gian-Carlo Carra, Ward 9 Councilor and Kendra Varoney, City of Calgary, Community Recreation Coordinator for Acadia, all present for the occasion.

Also present and honored were representatives of Bry Sand Ice Arena – Bryan, Stephane and Glen for their extraordinary workmanship and commitment to the project.
The Acadia Community Association Board of Directors was represented by Keith, Barry, Phyllis, Frankie, Lil, Blair and Paula as well as the ARC Operations Manager Craig and Curling Coordinator Shelley.
To cumulate this project we had Honorable Jonathan Denis and ARC Seniors curler Dan Scrivens, who turned 90 in April, cut the ribbon that was being held by ARC youth curlers Danica and Cayden who recently turned 8. Thank you for being part of this special ceremony.
After moving to the Social lounge with introductions of speakers for the occasion, the official cake was cut by Jonathan Denis and Gian-Carlo Carra, signifying the renovated Acadia curling rink officially open.

Our appreciation and special thank you to our following community partners:

  • Wild Rose Bakery – for the specialty curling cake, even the small curling rocks were edible and the cake was delicious. Thank you, Nikki for your contribution.

The OFFICIAL OPENING of the renovated ARC Curling Rink

Come to the ARC on Saturday October 18th at 12:30pm to Celebrate!

The original curling rink concrete pad has been replaced with a new state of the art curing floor.  Thank you, Bry Sand Ice Arena Ltd., for your excellent job, expertise, and finishing the job in time and under budget.

Thanks again to grants from the Provincial Lottery Fund, Sport Facility Renewal Program supported by the Municipal Sustainability Initiative Capital Fund and the support of the Curling User Group.  You are welcome to come and see what can be accomplished through support of your provincial government, City of Calgary, and the Acadia Community Association.
